Is NBS Television now the politicians’ preferred pulpit?

Self-proclaimed the political command centre, NBS Television has cut out its own niche as the station where Ugandans can watch everything political or related the earliest. And as such, politicians have recently appeared to endorse this fact, seeing as they all seem to fight for space on the station.

On one of their most prominent shows, the weekdays 6 to 9am “Morning Breeze,” for example, the last couple of weeks alone have seen personalities such as Beti Kamya, Bobi Wine, Gen. Tumukunde, Al Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala, among others, get hosted by the unconventional interviewer, Simon Kaggwa Njala. There was also space for the controversial Al Hajji Abdu Nadduli and Rtd. Lt. Gen. Kasirye Ggwanga, with all the above shows leaving tongues wagging online and among different social settings.

From Bobi Wine’s interesting narration of his first 100 days in office as president to Gen. Henry Tumukunde’s first interview since he announced his intention to stand for presidency, the Kin Kariisa-owned station has stayed relevant on a daily basis, shaping the political conversations in this highly political season.
With this trend, the brains at Next Media have managed to neutralize all their competition’s efforts to increase their viewership in that segment which has left many viewers looking out the next politician.
As we approach the election year, politicians’ need for the media to communicate with their electorate, and the early signs already show who just might be the authoritative source of fresh information.
There have been arguments about NBS Television, however, about being influenced by the regime, and those allegations we shall look out for in the long run. For now, the hosting of Bobi Wine when many stations seem to avoid the drama that often comes with, along with a known DP stalwart in Simon Kaggwa Njala being one of the main hosts, along with the current affairs department being led by another DP member, Joyce Bagala, are still confusing us.
For now, credit where it is due, well done NBS Television.e political command centre, NBS Television has cut out its own niche as the station where Ugandans can watch everything political or related the earliest.
