May 3rd is celebrated Worldwide as a Press Freedom Day.
The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon. Vincent Ssempijja said in Uganda, the day reminds everybody of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom and also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics.
“Just as importantly, World Press Freedom Day is a day of support for media which are targets for the restraint and abolition of press freedom. It is also a day of remembrance for those journalists who lost their lives in the pursuit of a story,” he said.
He as the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), they appreciate the role played by the media towards the government’s efforts to transform Ugandans from a subsistence form of agriculture to commercial farming.
He also used the day to call on everyone to join H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda Y.K Museveni and the Ministry of Health in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. Stay home, Stay safe.
