Kira Municipality MP Hon. George Musisi while on the floor of parliament yesterday raised the plight of property owners who have been on standby for compensation to give way for construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

He says the process has since stalled, and asked for new evaluations due to appreciation in value of the properties in issue. Government says petitions from affected persons is the cause of the delays, but a team from the Ministry of Works and Transport is resolving the dispute.

Hundreds of residents in Namataba Village, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, were stopped from developing their properties about 9 years ago because of the project. Nearly a decade later, they are yet to receive compensation.
