Kampala: Mr. Abel Mwenda, son of veteran journalist Mr. Andrew Mwenda, has donated a consignment of medical supplies to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in support of this year’s Tarehe Sita community outreach activities.

The donation, mobilised from Salud Pharmacy, was officially handed over at the Pan-African Women’s Organization (PAWO) offices in Kampala. The ceremony was facilitated by Lt Eng Yesero Kunya Allan, Political Commissar for the UPDF-Air Force, while Lt Dr Aine received the supplies on behalf of the UPDF Joint Staff Health Services.

UPDF officials welcomed the contribution, noting that the medical supplies will be used during ongoing outreach programmes aimed at providing free healthcare services to communities as part of the Tarehe Sita commemorations.

Speaking at the handover, Abel Mwenda commended the UPDF for its transformation over the years and its continued involvement in community-focused initiatives.

“The UPDF has evolved into a professional and disciplined force that not only safeguards the nation but also serves communities through initiatives like medical outreaches,” he said, adding that he remains committed to supporting national development efforts.

This year’s 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations were held on February 6 in Kabale District under the leadership of Joint Staff Political Commissar Major General Henry Masiko. The annual event marks the launch of the liberation struggle on February 6, 1981, and is commemorated through community service activities, including health camps conducted under Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC).

Abel Mwenda is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Chuka Pharmacy and Guild Pharmacy Ltd, with additional investments in agriculture, including coffee production and livestock farming.
