Mafabi Asha Nabulo takes over as head of Sironko Roads committee, launches safe water project in Bukiise

Sironko District Woman MP: Hon. Mafabi Asha Nabulo

Sironko: The Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Mafabi Asha Nabulo, has taken over as the new Chairperson of the Sironko District Roads Committee, taking over a crucial responsibility in a district widely known for its challenging mountainous terrain and road infrastructure constraints.

Her reign comes in at a time when residents across Sironko continue to face difficulties in transportation due to poor road conditions, especially during the rainy seasons when several roads become difficult to navigate. The district’s rugged landscape has long posed challenges to road construction, maintenance, and accessibility, affecting trade, service delivery, and economic activities.

Accepting her appointment, Hon. Mafabi pledged to work closely with the district leadership, technical teams, and relevant stakeholders to improve the motorability of roads across the district. She emphasized that an efficient road network is essential for facilitating access to markets, schools, health facilities, and other social services thereby promoting development.

She noted that improving road infrastructure remains a key driver of social and economic transformation, adding that better roads will enable farmers and traders to transport their produce more efficiently while attracting investment opportunities to the district.

“Our priority is to ensure that the people of Sironko can access goods and services with ease. Good roads are critical for development, and I am committed to working with all stakeholders to improve connectivity throughout the district,” she said.

Safe Water Initiative launched in Bukiise Sub-county

In related development, Hon. Mafabi, in collaboration with the Nile Humanitarian Development Agency, has launched a safe water project in Nalugugu Parish, Bukiise Sub-county, aimed at addressing longstanding water challenges affecting local communities.

Bukiise Sub-county is among the most densely populated areas in Sironko District and has for years struggled with limited access to clean and safe water sources. Residents have often been forced to travel long distances in search of water, exposing them to health risks and consuming valuable productive time.

The newly launched boreholes are expected to significantly improve access to safe water for hundreds of households in the area. The project is also anticipated to reduce pressure on existing water sources while contributing to improved public health and sanitation standards.

Representatives at the launch ceremony highlighted the importance of partnerships between leaders, development agencies, and communities in addressing essential service delivery gaps. They commended the collaboration between Hon. Mafabi and the Nile Humanitarian Development Agency for bringing tangible solutions to the people of Nalugugu Parish.

The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to increase access to safe water in rural communities and support sustainable development goals related to health, sanitation, and poverty reduction.

Residents welcomed the project, expressing optimism that the new water sources will reduce the burden on women and children who often bear the responsibility of collecting water for their households.

The dual developments—Hon. Mafabi’s appointment to head the Roads Committee and the launch of new water infrastructure projects—underscore ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and accelerate development in Sironko District.

Local leaders have expressed confidence that the focus on road infrastructure and safe water access will contribute significantly to improving livelihoods, enhancing economic productivity, and fostering inclusive growth across the district thereby improving household income.

Hon. Mafabi Asha Nabulo is a development oriented leader who focus is slowly on driving the people out of poverty through improved infrastructure which enables development quicker.
