Makindye Chief Magistrate, Richard Mafabi has remanded Mbarara businessman Buryo David. David, 37, a prominent businessman dealing in cow sales last night arrested on charges of murder. David was at 8 pm picked from Agip Motel Mbarara where he was found taking evening coffee by security personnel and driven to Mbarara Police Station.
From where he was driven at a break neck speed to Katwe Police station in Kampala where he spent the night before appearing at Makindye Chief Magistrate Court today afternoon and he was remanded to Luzira Prison until further notice . He wasn’t allowed to enter a plea because the court lacks jurisdiction to try his case. Sources say David has been a wanted man since 2015 to answer charges of murder contrary to section 189 of the Penal Code Act.
David, is a resident of Nyamitanga Kisenyi Katete Ward in Mbarara who is renowned for cow selling and at one time he masqueraded as an army captain. He had two guns and has since been disarmed. He had forged a UPDF ID and his close connections to top security guys made him a feared man in Mbarara town because sources say he always had three soldiers guarding him at his Mbarara home. He never stopped bragging about being very close to the IGP Gen.Kale Kayihura and Security Minister Gen Henry Tumukunde. At the time of his arrest, he was found with Shs 3m in cash.
It is said that David Buryo together with Okot Simon,23, a private guard Naziba Zone Seguku, Alex Serwanga, 36 of Nakulabye Rubaga Division, Balimuhsi Tadeo of Kawempe, Okong Julius of Nakulabye Rubaga Division and others still at large within Namasuba Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso district with malice aforethought murdered Mutagubya Nassur. They robbed Nassur of his Motor Vehicle Reg. No. UAV 312M Toyota Noah and at immediately before or immediately after the said robbery, they used bodily violence and murdered the said Mutagubya Nassur. It is said the same group used to murder people in Mukono and surrounding areas and tie their bodies in sacks before dumping them.
The suspects were arrested last year and a case CRB: 288/15 recorded at Katwe Police station but David because of his connections in security circles was granted bond and has been dodging arrests since then until when he met his last night. His bond has been cancelled following day’s appearance in court over the matter. Alex Serwanga and Julius Okongo two of the above mentioned suspects are on remand at Kigo Prison where they were committed for trial for murder.
