Mutufu Town Council Strikes Back: How a fearless town humbled a minister and shook the NRM to its core

In a stunning display of courage and resolve, the people of Mutufu Town Council rose before dawn on May 19th, launching a political thunderstorm that now echoes across Uganda.

At 4:00 AM sharp, a 14-member delegation set off for the NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo, Kampala, armed with evidence, frustration, and a mission to expose what may be the boldest electoral sabotage yet, by none other than Hon. Florence Nambozo Wamala, State Minister for Karamoja.

The Charges?

●Tearing the voter register (May 6th)

●Bribery attempts: UGX 10 million to silence her opponent, UGX 500,000 per vote to buy loyalty

●Importing voters from outside villages

●Enlisting men and elderly in a Women’s League election

● Illegally conducting the election on May 7th using a fake process

●Switching parishes at the nomination stage to dodge defeat, then locking out competitors

●Illegally contesting in mainstream elections at the sub-county level instead of her designated Women’s League

The Result? Chaos. Twice.
The sub-county elections were thrown into disarray, first on May 16th, again on the 17th due to her interference.

The Showdown in Kyadondo
When the brave leaders of Mutufu presented their case, NRM Electoral Commission Chair Dr. Tanga Odoi wasted no time. He called Hon. Nambozo on speakerphone. And when she weakly claimed she “didn’t know the rules,” Tanga fired back:

“Madam Minister, phones exist for a reason. If you couldn’t call, you should have driven to my office. Ignorance is no excuse for disrupting the people’s rights.”

Then came the gavel drop:

She must write a formal apology to the voters and the NRM

The Verdict from Mutufu?
They want her gone. Out of the structures. Out of the system. Forever.
Their message is clear: “We will not be bullied. We will not be bought. We will be heard.”

This is more than a local rebellion, it’s a wake-up call to the entire party. Mutufu has spoken, and they’ve shattered the myth of untouchable power. The Minister’s empire didn’t fall by force. It fell by truth.
