MAAIF, NAADS donate tractors to King Oyo’s Model Farm
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) through NAADS has handed over 2 tractors to King Oyo Nyimba of Tooro in support of the mechanization drive at the King’s model farm located in Bugaaki Sub County in Kyenjojo district.
The farm was established by the King as an initiative to fight poverty among his people especially the youth. It is a learning center for those who want to engage in Agriculture.
The farm has more than 8 enterprises including horticulture, dairy, goats, fish farming and many more.
The Minister of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon. Frank Tumwebaze presided over the handover of the two machines.
Hon. Frank Tumwebaze said he was glad to visit King Oyo model farm in Kyenjojo.
The farm has 9 enterprise demo plots in addition to fish, poultry and cattle. He thanked His Majesty King Oyo for this initiative to guide his subjects especially the young people.
“Very proud of him for showing leadership,” Hon Frank added.
He also said the Ministry will enroll this farm on to its partnerships of nucleus farms that help to uplift the other small holder farmers.
“When model/commercial farms are supported, they become anchor markets support points for the many small ones. I delivered 2 tractors to the King,” Hon Frank Tumwebaze said.
I hosted the Hon. Minister of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon FrankTumwebaze at my King Oyo Model Farm in Bugaaki sub county, Kyenjonjo District. We discussed collaboration in different areas of supporting our farmers in Tooro Kingdom. My appreciation to the Hon. Minister through his Ministry of Agriculture for donating two tractors to King Oyo Model Farm which will support farm activities,” King Oyo said.
