Hundreds gather in Kanungu as State House Anti-Corruption Unit Probes Tea Nursery Payments and 30 Percent Deduction

Kanungu: Hundreds of tea nursery bed operators are gathering at Kanungu District Hall awaiting a meeting with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, following President Museveni’s directives over alleged underpayment and non-payment after government disbursements.

The move follows a letter dated 22nd February 2026, in which the President wrote to Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, raising concerns over tea nursery bed operators.

In the letter, President Museveni directed action against individuals operating under Pathways Advocates, including the newly elected Rukiga County MP Hon. Kiconco Patrick Katabazi, accusing them of extorting money from tea growers. He questioned the legality of a reported 30% deduction from farmers’ payments and demanded to know who the government collaborators were.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has now commenced investigations.
