Kiryandongo District Woman MP Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi has reaffirmed her commitment to advocate for increased government investment in cancer and cardiac care, improved availability of lifesaving medicines, and expansion of specialised treatment facilities so that every Ugandan, regardless of their economic status or district of origin, can access quality healthcare within the country.
Hon. Katusiime said this when she joined the Parliamentary Health Committee on an oversight visit to the Mulago Heart Institute and the Uganda Cancer Institute.
The oversight exercise, led by the Committee Chairperson, Hon. Dr. Monday Julius Rude, focused on assessing specialised healthcare service delivery, medical infrastructure, availability of essential medicines, equipment, and the overall capacity of the two national referral institutions.
During the visit, Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi engaged with hospital management and medical specialists, where she raised concerns about the challenges faced by ordinary patients from Kiryandongo District in accessing affordable cancer treatment. She particularly sought clarification on the cost of treatment, the persistent scarcity of essential cancer drugs, and the inadequate medical facilities that continue to affect timely and quality care for patients.
“I reaffirmed my commitment to advocate for increased government investment in cancer and cardiac care, improved availability of lifesaving medicines, and expansion of specialised treatment facilities so that every Ugandan, regardless of their economic status or district of origin, can access quality healthcare within the country,” Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi said.
