Kiryandongo District Woman MP Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi, has appealed to the government through the State Minister for Energy Hon. Okaasai Opolot to ensure that communities neighbouring Kiryandongo Sugar Limited benefit from electricity. She said villages such as Kimogora, Ndoi, Kisenyi and Kawiti in Mutunda Sub-county need transformers and immediate connection.

She also called upon UEDCL and Karuma Project management to electrify host communities in Karuma, Bweyale and Nyamahasa and to fully compensate all persons affected by the power line.

The call comes after the visit by the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources led by its chairperson Hon. Dan Kimosho. The MPs conducted an oversight visit to the project.

“Today, the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources led by Chairperson Hon. Dan Kimosho conducted an oversight visit to Karuma Hydropower Project. I was joined by Hon. Linos Ngompek, MP Kibanda North and the LCV Chairperson of Kiryandongo Hon. Osaga Nelson. During the visit, I appealed to the State Minister for Energy Hon. Okaasai Opolot to ensure that communities neighbouring Kiryandongo Sugar Limited benefit from electricity. Villages such as Kimogora, Ndoi, Kisenyi and Kawiti in Mutunda Sub-county need transformers and immediate connection. The Minister has pledged that the Ministry will provide the transformers. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi posted on her social media after the visit.
