Mbale: The Project Implementation Team for the Mbale Water Supply and Sanitation Project recently conducted an on-site inspection and progress review meeting in Mbale with the DAAB, Consultant, and Contractor.
Current Overall Physical Progress stands at:
Lot 1: 88%
Lot 2: 94%
Key highlights from the visit include:
1. Civil works at Namatala are almost complete, with only the sump and pump house at the intake remaining.
2. Rock blasting at the sump is ongoing, alongside casting of the clarifier inlet and fixing of interconnecting pipes.


3. At Manafwa, installation of interconnecting pipes from the new filters to the existing clarifiers is progressing well.
4. Public toilets have reached the finishing stage.

5. At Doko and Namatala Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), contractors have started filling the drying beds with the first layer of filter media.

The Mbale Water Supply and Sanitation Project, funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Water and Environment in partnership with NWSC, is a transformative initiative for Eastern Uganda.
It aims to provide reliable clean water and improved sanitation services to Mbale City and surrounding towns including Butaleja, Busolwe, Budaka, Kadama, Kibuku, and Tirinyi.

By 2040, the project is expected to benefit over 646,000 people.
The project combines new infrastructure development with the rehabilitation of existing systems, marking a significant step towards sustainable water and sanitation services in the region.

With completion scheduled for August 2026, the Mbale project continues to demonstrate strong momentum and remains on course to deliver lasting impact for the people of Eastern Uganda.
