Minister Strikes Again!! Sironko Elections Plunged into Chaos as Irregularities Emerge in Mutufu Town Council, Sironko District

Hon. Florence Nambozo

The political dust in Mutufu Town Council had barely settled after the disruption of elections on May 16th when yet another storm hit Sironko’s political stage. What was intended to be a fresh attempt at democratic expression on the 17th has instead deepened the wounds of mistrust, manipulation, and electoral fraud.

In a shocking turn of events, Honorable Minister Nambozo Florence, who had previously fled the polling station after losing favor in the Women’s League election, returned to contest for the position of General Secretary. The voting exercise initially seemed peaceful until the final tally was announced: Hon. Nambozo secured 105 votes, while her opponent trailed closely with 101 votes.

However, the registered number of eligible voters for the General Secretary position stands clearly at 201, which means five votes mysteriously appeared from an unknown source. These five ghost votes have thrown the entire electoral process into question. How did the total number of votes become 206 when only 201 voters were documented? Who authorized the inclusion of individuals not on the register?

According to eyewitness reports and members of the opponent’s camp, every single supporter of the opposition candidate was verified on the official register and physically accounted for during the line-up. This means that the anomaly lies entirely within the minister’s camp, raising serious concerns about ballot stuffing, ghost voters, or deliberate manipulation of the process.

Furious over the irregularity, the opponent’s team immediately protested, refusing to proceed with what they termed “a rigged and illegitimate exercise.” The elections were again halted indefinitely, plunging the NRM structure elections in Mutufu Town Council into a fresh crisis.

Local residents and party faithful are now demanding urgent intervention from the NRM Secretariat, calling for a transparent audit of the voter register and an investigation into the growing pattern of electoral malpractice linked to the Honorable Minister. They argue that this is not just a matter of political rivalry but a deliberate abuse of power and betrayal of the democratic values that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) claims to uphold.

One elder from Mutufu, visibly disappointed, remarked,
“We have supported this party with our hearts, but what we are witnessing is not democracy; it is dictatorship in disguise. We are not fools, and we refuse to be cheated in broad daylight.”

This is not the first time Minister Nambozo has been at the center of political controversy. The previous day’s events saw her storm out of the electoral venue after preliminary results showed she was trailing. Her team was accused of intimidation and tearing electoral materials, which forced the election officials to suspend the process altogether.

Now, with a second disruption in two days, the people of Sironko are beginning to lose faith in the fairness of the NRM internal elections. The outcry is growing, not just for justice, but for accountability from those in power who are using their positions to manipulate democratic processes.

The people of Mutufu are no longer whispering; they are speaking out loudly:
“Justice must prevail, or the credibility of the NRM will forever be stained in Sironko.”

As the nation watches closely, all eyes now turn to the NRM Secretariat: Will they stand with the truth, or will they allow political impunity to reign?
