Updates on the ongoing NWSC Lake Victoria Protection Project

The Ongoing Lake Victoria Protection Project Stage 2 (LVP2)- Construction of Nakivubo Waste Water Treatment Plant at Bugolobi.

The project is part of the Kampala Sanitation Program that is aimed at ensuring improvements in urban hygiene, sanitation and protection of Kampala’s natural environment.

The Nakivubo Waste Water Treatment Plant has design capacity of 45,000m3/day, it consists of inlet pump station, screens & Aerated grit chambers, primary sedimentation tank, aerated trickling filter unit, clarifiers, sludge storage tank, digesters, biogas holding tanks, bio-filters, and all the associated fittings and electro-mechanicals.’

Upon Completion, the new plant will serve over 38,000 people in Kampala.

The Ongoing Project: Lake Victoria Protection Project Stage 2 – Construction of Nakivubo and Kinawataka Sewers.

The project is part of the Kampala Sanitation Program that is aimed at ensuring improvements in urban hygiene, sanitation and protection of Kampala’s natural environment

The Sewers Project involves;

  • Laying Nakivubo Sewers (Size: DN 225 – 1500mm) of length 11.9km in the Central business district of Kampala

  • Laying Kinawataka Sewers (Size: DN 225 – 800mm) of length 12.7km in the Eastern parts of Kampala City
  • Laying Kinawataka Pre-treatment Plant Sewers (Size: DN 300 – 800mm) to convey sewage from Butabika to Nakivubo treatment plant of total length 5.6km
  • Construction of associated works including manholes and tie-in works.
