The Ministry of Works and Transport has confirmed that the government is to develop a bridge maintenance and management system under a grant from the Japan Government to be implemented by Uganda National UNOPS.
Uganda’s district road network remains central to service delivery, trade, and community connectivity. However, many bridges have exceeded their design life and are increasingly affected by climate-related events.
This system will enable regular inspection tracking and condition monitoring, support early detection of structural issues and reduce emergency repairs and costly failures.
