Thomas Tayebwa inspires Ruhinda North women to UGX 700m savings

Ruhinda North County Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has helped Ruhinda North women to savings of UGX 700m.

In 2016, Hon Thomas Tayebwa invited women leaders from Ruhinda North to listen to the challenges facing local women.

Access to capital was the major issue raised and that is how they hatched an idea to open a women led SACCO.

During their annual general meeting, the SACCO announced savings of over 700M.

The MP who doubles as the Government Chief Whip gave them a starting capital of 5M, rent and salaries for only one year in 2016.

The SACCO has grown to 1650 members from an initial 20.

The board is composed of 7 local women who have done a great job inculcating a saving culture among the grassroot people in the constituency.
