New Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Sir Alex Ferguson did not try to talk him out of working with controversial owner Vincent Tan.

Speaking at a press conference after being officially appointed on Thursday afternoon, the former Manchester United striker said: ‘I had good contact with the gaffer (Sir Alex Ferguson). He has wished me the best and has given me good advice. I had a good conversation with him. ‘Absolute nonsense (that Ferguson tried to talk him out of it). I had a good chat with Mehmet (Dalman, the chairman). They want me to be in charge of the football. I don’t need more confirmation than seeing the players yesterday.
