Samaritan, Sunrise dominate NSSF KAVC International Primary School qualifiers

Samaritan Primary School dominated qualifications at their own backyard when the curtain came down on the 2019 Qualifiers.

The Namugongo based Primary Schools qualified to play at the finals set for 4th August 2019 in Lugogo with a total of 4 teams in both boys and girls category.

Samaritan defeated Elyon (B team of Samaritan Primary School) 2-0 25-18, 25-19 in the boys U-14 semifinals. In the same category, St James Nkumba won at close range against Sunrise Matugga 2-1 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 in an entertaining duel.

“My team has played in this championship for five years now and we have won 4 of them, this time round we want to leave Lugogo with all the trophies” said Joshua Osiya, Coach of Samaritan Primary School.

In the Girls U-14, Samaritan and Sunrise A were at it, defeating Rema and Sunrise B respectively to set up a repeat of last year’s finals.

In the boys U-12 1st Semi Finals, Sunrise A made a meal off Sunrise B with 2-0 win (25-20, 25-16). The other semifinals between St James were deferred to 4th August 2019 in Lugogo due to bad light.

Sunrise were at it again defeating new kids on the block, Rema Primary School 2-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-23) in the Girls U-12 first Semi Finals. Samaritan defeated Shining Stars 2-0 (25-22, 25-20) in the other Semi Finals.

The Schools tournament is aimed at enriching the foundation of Volleyball in Uganda.

‘Most of us learnt the game at the latter stages of our youth and that is why we played well but not for so long” Said Anthony Ashaba a Veteran who played in 9-KAVC Founders Memorial Tournament between 1998 and 2006. “So this tournament will allow for a different breed of players to come up, players who understand the game from the onset” Added the former Old Kampala Volleyball Club attacker.

All the finalist will square off on 4th August 2019 before the Men and Women’s Finals in Lugogo to determine the eventual Champion.

“The finals are reserved to be held on that day to allow fans watch what the future stars have in stock” Said Milly Kure, KAVC President.
