The decision comes after his party endorsed troubled incumbent mayor Erias Lukwago who was nominated yesterday. Lukwago faces tough competition from singer cum businessman Dan Kazibwe aka Ragga Dee.

Below is the official statement from Rwamiti who was told by the party to contest as an LCV Councillor post to stand a chance of becoming deputy mayor in case Erias Lukwago wins;

MILES RWAMITI (FDC FLAG BEAER FOR KAMPALA LORD MAYOR 2016-2021) Dear Kampalans, you have all heard that my candidature has been sabotaged by FDC political agreements beyond my control. I sought to seek for your mandate as Lord Mayor for Kampala (2016-2021) under the FDC ticket, a party I belong to and love so much.

As the process is in FDC, I got endorsement from all Divisions as the Lord Mayoral candidate and also received acceptance from the party as the OFFICIAL FDC FLAG BEARER for the position of Kampala Lord Mayor because there was no other candidate contesting against me within the party. Until recently, all was well and I was set for my nominations today November, 20th 2015 in the National Electoral Commission.

I have however hit a snag where individual interests within the party have weighed in on supporting another candidate called Erias Lukwago for the same position. And as such, the party has denied me a ticket through refusing to stamp my declaration forms. I believe as a sober Ugandan that this is wrong and completely unfair having a party officially supporting a NON-PARTY CANDIDATE. This is political suicide and regrettable and does not in any way represent strategy for future growth of the party but only limited to solving assumed current problems.

The Party proposed to me through the Party Chairman Wasswa Birigwa, acting on the orders of the Party President and others, that I should stand as an LCV Councilor in any division of my choice and later become Deputy Lord Mayor if preferred non-party candidate Erias Lukwago wins the election in February 2016.

Whereas I appreciate this gesture, I have declined the offer as my interests lay in serving all the people of Kampala. Secondly, FDC has fielded candidates in all elective positions in Kampala, accepting to contest as LCV Councilor would mean dislodging one of my FDC colleagues who has already invested in that position – this would be unfair.

Today, I let you know that I will HURTFULLY accept the party position of not proceeding for nomination as Lord Mayor for Kampala 2016 – 2021 for the sake of maintaining peace but I will actively be involved in the campaigns and I will offer my support as per my discretion.

Thank you

MILES RWAMITI FDC LORD MAYOR FLAG BEARER 2016 – 2021
