Presidential directive; NEMA embarks on restoration activities at Busabala, Homes put on ground

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has this afternoon embarked on restoration activities on Busabala wetland.
The exercise is in line with a Presidential directive to assist encroachers to leave wetlands peacefully.
The exercise is part of efforts efforts to safeguard wetlands in Uganda.

The restoration order requires the owners of the structures to voluntarily remove their structures or have them demolished with cost implications on them.


The ongoing exercise is being done in collaboration with the Department of Wetlands Management, Ministry of Water and Environment and relevant Local Governments.
According to the Executive director National Environment Management Authority Dr Barirega Akankwasah, the Presidential directive exempts ordinary citizens from prosecution but reqiires them to leave peacefully.
