Police arrest medical personnel for allegedly issuing fake HIV laboratory test results to clients
The issuance of fake HIV/Aids results is becoming a mushrooming practice among most private clinics.
Police have arrested a laboratory technician identified as Moses Mande attached to Citizen Medical Center in Kiganda, Kasokoso for conspiring with HIV/AIDS patients to falsify status certificates in breach of both medical ethical code and the Penal Code.
His arrest comes after a male counsellor set out to carry out a research into the remarkable rise in HIV prevalence figures in the area. He then decided to use Citizen Medical Center in Kiganda, Kasokoso as a research sample together with his partner and was issued with an HIV negative results slip by Moses without taking them through a blood test.
Mande has for a long period of time worked as a laboratory technician administering blood tests especially to couples preparing for marriage. However he disclosed that some of the couples that visit the clinic to know their HIV/AIDS status have been paying him 50000/- bribe to get results indicating that they are negative yet they are HIV positive in fear of opening up to their partners.
The researcher who has been on ARV treatment for three years then sought for police intervention leading to the arrest and detention of the medical personnel.
Various counsellors have opted for this method of spot checks on these medical facilities to ascertain the reasons for the increasing rate of HIV/AIDS infection in some areas around Kampala and its surroundings.
Police therefore warn medical personnels against falsification of results for its unethical and puts the lives of other people at risk of being infected with HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases.
