Planned excavation across & traffic diversion along Kampala’s Northern Bypass & Ndagire Road from Friday 1st to Tuesday 12th May 2020

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), on behalf of The Government of the Republic of Uganda (GoU), is currently constructing The Katosi-Kampala Drinking Water Transmission Mains to supply drinking water to the increasing population of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

NWSC has accordingly contracted Sogea Satom to implement the project which involves excavation and laying of water pipes across Kampala Northern Bypass and Ndagire Road, from Friday 1st to Tuesday 12th May 2020.

On these days, some sections of the Kampala Northern Bypass and Ndagire Road shall be closed to traffic which shall be diverted to alternative routes. The excavation works shall be done in three phases to allow proper traffic management and minimize traffic disruptions.

Please note that:
• Normal time of work shall be daytime and it will take 4 days to install the pipes across the Kampala Northern Bypass and fill the road to make it passable. It will take 7 days to install the pipes along Ndagire Road and fill the road to make it passable. Permanent reinstatement of the road pavements shall be completed within nine (9) working days after the works.
• During the actual excavation works across the Northern Bypass, traffic from Bweyogerere to Naalya and vice versa shall use a temporary diversion created parallel to the Northern Bypass carriage way.
• During the actual excavation works along Ndagire Road, traffic from Naaalya to Kamuli and vice versa shall use Naalya Road, Kisosonkole Road, Banda-Kamuli Road and part of Ndagire Road.

The ongoing project when completed will add over 160m litres of water per day to Kampala Water Metropolitan service area.

The combined water production from Katosi and Ggaba Water Works is projected to cater for the demand for clean water services in Kampala upto the year 2040.

Any inconveniences are highly regretted.
