Parliament has organized Iftar Dinner to demonstrate solidarity with Muslim brothers and sisters.
The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among encouraged the Muslims to dedicate this year’s Ramadhan to giving the poor.
“As we retreat to our homes we should not forget the less privileged who cannot afford a proper meal and others without shelter, we can do something for them,” Rt Hon.Anita said.
Deputy Speaker Rt Hon. Thomas Tayebwa said it was a great honor to share Iftar dinner with his Muslim brothers and sisters at the event.
“May the Almighty Allah listen to our deliberations and prayers during this period and sustain us with good tidings,” Hon. Tayebwa said.
“As a way of strengthening our bond with the Muslim fraternity, our Muslim Members of Parliament have given me a new name,Twaha Tayebwa and my boss given; Ashmat Anita Among,” Rt Hon. Thomas tweeted after the event.

Below is the full speech by the speaker;
I wish to take this opportunity to welcome you to this year’s Iftar Dinner. The Parliamentary Commission has for the last 6 years organized Iftar Dinners, as a way of demonstrating solidarity with our Muslim Brothers and Sisters in Uganda.
Allah Says in Surat Baqarah; Chapter 2 Verse 183 that;
“Oh you who believe, observing Fast is Prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you become pious”
The Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings be upon Him) said, “Fasting and the Qur’an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection.
The fast will say: ‘O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.”
The above expression highlights the importance of fasting and I encourage the Muslims in Uganda to take advantage of the Holy Month of Ramadhan by multiplying their praise and worship to Allah.
I am aware of the rewards that come with providing Iftar to a fasting person as illustrated by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) who said “Allah grants rewards to whoever gives a meal to a fasting person to break their fast”.
I encourage the Muslims to dedicate this year’s Ramadhan to giving the poor. As we retreat to our homes we should not forget the less privileged who cannot afford a proper meal and others without shelter.
This holy month of Ramadhan provides us with an opportunity to do more with giving the poor as it’s not only a sign of kindness but also an avenue to get rewards from Allah the Most High.
In support of promoting the work of Almighty Allah, we are making a contribution of UGX 50,000,000= (Fifty Million Shillings only) towards the construction of AL-HIDAYA MOSQUE in Kabowa – Lubaga Division.
I wish you a peaceful and blessed fasting period. May the Al-might Allah hear and Answer all our prayers during this Holy Month – Amen. Ramadhan Mubarak”,.
