Sarah Namwenge, the organiser told Showbiz Uganda that she picked 20 girls who were begging for cash (kikumi) from the streets and trained them as models for the show.
Sarah picked street kids and trained them to participate in the upcoming show
Her aim is to make these girls realise their potential and make something for themselves, their families and communities.
The sexy model has partnered with Ministry of Tourism, Duke Water and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
Other sponsors are Nile Breweries Limited (NBL), Brussels airlines, Oriflame and Darling. “We want the girls to start small projects for themselves when integrated back in Karamoja with their families with the cash they will earn from the show”, Sarah said.
The children are currently training at our Katwe Centre for street children (Katwe Youth Development Association). We have other two centres – Retrak home in Kalerwe and Mengo Youth Development Link. We let all the street children interested join the training, and then we will have our final 20 for the show.
Our theme for this year is transformation “From Nobody To Somebody”.
Lady Crane’s Past Shows
We have appreciated annually since 2012 which has triggered a necessity for more companies to join the existing sponsors in the 2015 event that will be showcased by 20 street girls we are training in catwalk from the streets of Kampala for the Lady Crane show. When they earn out of this show, this will be their dream come true but for just the lucky 20 who will be selected. And this will also show that we are creating income projects for the invisible and not just watching out for the authorized body’s actions.
Sarah is one of the most hardworking models Uganda has ever had
From our past 3 years of establishment, we have sponsors like Brussels Airlines that Award return air tickets to lucky 2 participants and brought in International guests and participants, Ministry of Tourism, KCCA, Darling Uganda for the hair, WBS and Daily Monitor for publicity, Duke Water, Oriflame for makeup, Duke Water, Fairway Hotel for accommodation and blogs in Vancouver. And more are still in process for this year.
