Kampala Metropolitan needs more than 300m of water daily, NWSC working on it- Eng. Silver Mugisha

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Managing Director, Eng. Silver Mugisha has said Kampala was known as the city of the 7 hills consuming less than 50m litres of water per day.

“The city has now expanded to Wakiso, Mukono, parts of Entebbe among others. Whilst we produce 240million litres of water per day, the demand is more than 300million litres per day,” he said.

The MD said this has caused water supply challenges to customers in the peripheral of our network i.e Kyaliwajjala, Kyanja, Namugongo, Kira, Kisaasi Gayaza, Matugga, Seeta, Mukono, Sonde, Wakiso and other areas which are rapidly growing each day.

The new Katosi water treatment plant will add over 160million litres of water and cater for the current demand for services in the city. The plant will be ready by Jan 2021.

“For now, we are working on short term interventions to bridge the supply gap,” the MD added.
