Kale Kayihura elected as VP of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (Afripol)
Inspector General Police (IGP) Uganda, Gen Edward Kale Kayihura has been elected first vice president of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (Afripol).
He was elected today during the meeting held in the Algerian capital Algiers.
Gen Kayihura is attending a three day high level meeting for African police chiefs in Algerian capital, Algiers where Algeria’s Director General commended him and Uganda for efforts in fighting transnational crime and terrorism.
The meeting which started on Sunday, will end on Tuesday, 16 May 2017.
The Uganda police force has been involved in police training in South Sudan and Somalia, making it one of the forces on the continent with lessons for other countries.
Afripol is being hosted by Algeria’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) led by General Major Abdelghani Hamel who is president of Afripol. Whereas Gen Kale is the first vice president, Nigeria police boss is the second vice president, the third vice president is from Chad.
