“I was privileged to give a Key note Address at the Forum on Rising to the Challenge of Malaria Eradication held at the WHO/UNAIDS Kofi Annan conference room.
During this important meeting the World Health Organization (WHO), Director General Dr Tedros Gebreyesus, key donors- bilateral and multilateral, Heads and representatives of partner agencies and representatives of Academia and research Institutions were present and gave their input and thoughts.
We received and discussed the Highlights of the report of the WHO Strategic Advisory Group on Malaria Eradication and the report of the Lancet Commission on Malaria Eradication that had just been published.
We all agreed we need to take bold steps towards Malaria eradication. Invest more and utilize new innovations.
Malaria kills and continues to kill children, pregnant women and all the vulnerable populations in the endemic countries.
A quote from the Lancet Commission for each one of us to reflect on everyday.
“Malaria eradication is a goal of epic proportions that represents the best of human ingenuity and requires an extraordinary degree of trust and collaboration among all nations. It is this bigger vision that will propel and sustain the community in the long and sometimes difficult road to a Malaria – free world,” Jane Aceng.
