Nile Gold, in partnership with Black Roots Unlimited, are proud to announce internationally recognized Reggae Superstar Maxi Priest, Saxophonist Jackiem Joyner and Trumpeter Lin Rountree a.k.a The Soul-Trumpeter, as the headline acts for The 9th Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari, to be held on Saturday, 8th October, 2016.
Now in its 9th year, the Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari brings together masterful Jazz acts from all over the world to Kampala, attracting both Jazz enthusiasts and mainstream music lovers.
According to TShaka “Roots” Mayanja, founder and CEO of Jazz Safari, this year’s edition will be all about Jazz-Funk and Lovers Rock, attendees can look forward to a line-up that has a Reggae offering. “Each year, our priority is to create artistic experiences that are representative of the diverse nature of the genre, creating new layers of the jazz landscape.”
Since its inception in 2008, The Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari has seen its audiences grow exponentially and has successfully carved out a space for itself in the Uganda’s annual event calendar. “This year the concert will be held at The Cricket Oval Lugogo to accommodate the growing fan base,” added TShaka.
“We have also reduced the prices from 200,000 UGX to 130,000 UGX for the Gold tickets, while the VIP tables have been reduced from 3,150,000 to 2,500,000. We’re also setting up Domes and comfy Lounges at The Cricket Oval, so that we maintain an indoors feel, outdoors. We shall maintain our usual class and hospitality for all the fans”.
Reiterating the strong relationship between Nile Gold and the concert, Julian Ssentamu, the Nile Gold Brand Manager said, “ This event is about bringing people together to enjoy fantastic music. Creating meaningful experiences for the audience is what the Nile Gold Jazz Safari is all about. We plan to include local and regional content starting this year to build our talent at home just like all the other International Jazz Festivals do,” she added.
According to TShaka, this year’s artists were carefully selected and will represent real jazz in all its forms, focusing on all dimensions and the different generations of jazz music. “The creative artists we’re bringing together are pushing boundaries to create new, unique approaches that explore the true nature of jazz music.”
Maxi Priest, christened the “King of Lovers Rock” by his fans, is one of the most successful reggae artists of all time. His release of “Close To You” secured him a No. 1 hit single on U.S. Billboard charts. His effortless blend of Reggae, R&B and dancehall has universal appeal. Now, with over 15 million albums sold worldwide, he is the most successful solo acts in Reggae music history.
Saxophonist Jackiem Joyner also known by the stage name Lil Man Soul is an established contemporary jazz – R&B instrumentalist. His smash hit “I’m Waiting For You” won song of the year at the 2009 American Smooth Jazz Awards.
Soul-Jazz Trumpeter Lin Rountree’s music represents a new direction in instrumental soul. A polished recording artist and an outstanding live performer; Rountree is a leader amongst a new generation of Jazz artists baptized ‘Generation Next’.
The artists will visit the Rotary Cancer Hospital at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya, to see the contribution The Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari has made towards this project for the last four years. The event has a dedicated ward in the hospital, called The Maureen Mugoya Breast Cancer Ward.
