Pictorial: Silk Events roars at Blankets and Wine 10th Edition

Shortly after the end of lock down, Silk Events became the talk of town. Word filled the ever so vibrant alleys of Kampala rumor-mills that the legendary events production and experience outfit had reinvented themselves.

There was talk of importation of new production equipment. The mill further spilled that a technical crew of sound engineers and experience curators from countries like South Africa, Kenya and USA had thrown into the works, a number of new innovations to revamp Silk Events’ output in every production facet.

And if the recently concluded 10th edition of Blankets and Wine is anything to go by, it seems apparent that Silk Events is back to its glory days.The Silk Events team proved once again, that they are truly the leaders when it comes to staging, production and lighting.

“The stage sound was impeccable, and the overarching surround effect is something out of this world, something purely magical. How every thud of base is a healthy amount of resonation for the reveler’s ears and bodies, seems to be a result of complex mathematical calculations. They are the pros, and they brought out the big guns to silence all the previous small talk” an ecstatic reveler regaled a friend at the venue.The reveler was one of many who attested to the great musical experience put together by the mighty Silk Events, led by celebrated and internationally acclaimed sound engineer, Elvis Sekyanzi Wavamunno.

Stage performances from artistes like Bruce Melodie, Spice Diana, Zex Bilangilangi, Nviiri The Poet and DJs like Alisha, were great courtesy of the stage management that made everything look seamless and effortless.There was also the talk that the new changes might have been from the appointment of a new management led by a new director we’ve only identified as Amon.

Only months into the start of the new year and they have scooped most of the big events of the country. From Jam Fest, to the Makerere Fresher’s ball, Jersey Na Crocs, the Indian Entreprenuership Awards among other series of high profile and embassy shindigs.

Rumble in the Jungle with The Captain is back!!

Twaake in partnership with Silk Events is preparing a new jungle experience within the city on 21st December 2019. Various partners including Captain Morgan have come on board and the official hashtags for the party are #EatorbeEaten #RumbleintheJungle #Twaake.

Rumble in the Jungle, Eat or be Eaten- is a Jungle themed event that has been inspired by Uganda’s beautiful nature, the exciting culture of the people and great food. Rumble in the Jungle is a celebration our livelihoods.

This is the first Edition event under the new brand Twaake: an Innovative & Creative arm of Silk Events executing young, vibrant and exciting festival experiences for its audience.

The event will run over 24 hours from Saturday 21st December 12pm to Sunday 22nd December 12pm 2019. It will be homage to a blaring music experience with over 20 Deejays, unseen before Stage designs, a mystical Forest ambience, Wild life, Arts, games, great Food and Drink.

The event will attract a representation from across all age groups, from all walks of life, Ugandan and Foreign alike.

Nile Gold, in partnership with Black Roots Unlimited, are proud to announce internationally recognized Reggae Superstar Maxi Priest, Saxophonist Jackiem Joyner and Trumpeter Lin Rountree a.k.a The Soul-Trumpeter, as the headline acts for The 9^th Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari, to be held on Saturday, 8th October, 2016.

Now in its 9th year, the Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari brings together masterful Jazz acts from all over the world to Kampala, attracting both Jazz enthusiasts and mainstream music lovers.

According to TShaka “Roots” Mayanja, founder and CEO of Jazz Safari, this year’s edition will be all about Jazz-Funk and Lovers Rock, attendees can look forward to a line-up that has a Reggae offering. “Each year, our priority is to create artistic experiences that are representative of the diverse nature of the genre, creating new layers of the jazz landscape.”

Since its inception in 2008, The Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari has seen its audiences grow exponentially and has successfully carved out a space for itself in the Uganda’s annual event calendar. “This year the concert will be held at The Cricket Oval Lugogo to accommodate the growing fan base,” added TShaka.

“We have also reduced the prices from 200,000 UGX to 130,000 UGX for the Gold tickets, while the VIP tables have been reduced from 3,150,000 to 2,500,000. We’re also setting up Domes and comfy Lounges at The Cricket Oval, so that we maintain an indoors feel, outdoors. We shall maintain our usual class and hospitality for all the fans”.

Reiterating the strong relationship between Nile Gold and the concert, Julian Ssentamu, the Nile Gold Brand Manager said, “ This event is about bringing people together to enjoy fantastic music. Creating meaningful experiences for the audience is what the Nile Gold Jazz Safari is all about. We plan to include local and regional content starting this year to build our talent at home just like all the other International Jazz Festivals do,” she added.

According to TShaka, this year’s artists were carefully selected and will represent real jazz in all its forms, focusing on all dimensions and the different generations of jazz music. “The creative artists we’re bringing together are pushing boundaries to create new, unique approaches that explore the true nature of jazz music.”

Maxi Priest, christened the “King of Lovers Rock” by his fans, is one of the most successful reggae artists of all time. His release of “Close To You” secured him a No. 1 hit single on U.S. Billboard charts. His effortless blend of Reggae, R&B and dancehall has universal appeal. Now, with over 15 million albums sold worldwide, he is the most successful solo acts in Reggae music history.

Saxophonist Jackiem Joyner also known by the stage name Lil Man Soul is an established contemporary jazz – R&B instrumentalist. His smash hit “I’m Waiting For You” won song of the year at the 2009 American Smooth Jazz Awards.

Soul-Jazz Trumpeter Lin Rountree’s music represents a new direction in instrumental soul. A polished recording artist and an outstanding live performer; Rountree is a leader amongst a new generation of Jazz artists baptized ‘Generation Next’.

The artists will visit the Rotary Cancer Hospital at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya, to see the contribution The Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari has made towards this project for the last four years. The event has a dedicated ward in the hospital, called The Maureen Mugoya Breast Cancer Ward.

The concert is possible thanks to the efforts of Jazz FM, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Coca Cola, Rwenzori Premium, Guvnor and Silk Events.

Kool & The Gang Set To Rock Kampala

On November 12^th, 2016 Talent Africa and Silk Events are teaming up to take you on a trip down memory lane with a spectacular concert experience with the legendary group; Kool & The Gang. Kool & the Gang created a unique blend of jazz, soul and funk to that have had people dancing since 1969.

Kool & the Gang has sold over 70 million albums worldwide and influenced the music of three generations. Thanks to songs like Celebration, Cherish, Fresh, Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness, Get Down On It, and Ladies Night, they’ve earned two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums. Kool & the Gang have performed continuously for the past 5 decades, longer than any R&B group in history. Their bulletproof funk and jazzy arrangements have also made them the most sampled band of all time.
