Bishop Yona Katonene to retire
The curtains have finally fallen down as embattled West Ankole Diocese Bishop Yona Mwesigwa Katonene will officially retire and hand over office this Sunday 02nd October 2016 at a function that will be held at the diocesan headquarters.
The function will be presided over by Rt Rev Sheldon Mwesigwa on behalf of the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rt Rev. Stanley Ntagali at Bweranyangi. Katonene, 65 will hand over the crosier (pastoral stick) to the Sheldon who will then select a caretaker bishop until a new bishop is selected by the house of bishops later.
Katonene’s last four years have been characterised by resentment from Christians especially from Sheema District who accuse him of attempting to relocate the Ankole Western University Project from Kabwohe-Sheema to Bushenyi district and lack of financial accountability.
