ABOMINABLE: Budding Talented Footballer Amos Kelly Nsamba and Coach Mwebaza Go Missing over Relationship
By our reporter
Amos Kelly Nsamba, 19, a promising young footballer has gone missing under mysterious circumstances.
This follows a community meeting on 22nd December 2022, in Nakasongola district, Kakooge sub-county Kyeyindula parish Buddu village , where he was allegedly accused of being in a homosexual relationship with his coach.
Nsamba, who was born in Nakasongola
District, Kakooge Sub-County, Buddu Village, was a prominent member of the Kakooge Sub-County football team and a former student and football player at Gayaza SDA Secondary School in Wakiso
District.
The community meeting, coincidentally organized by the village chairperson who is also Nsamba’s mother—was
reportedly held to address rumours surrounding his alleged relationship with Amos Mwebaza, a 36-year-
old football coach in the area.
Following the meeting, Nsamba disappeared from the village, sparking
concern and speculation.

In March 2023, both Nsamba and Mwebaza vanished after a group of unidentified individuals reportedly
stormed their temporary residence in Nakaseke District, near Nakaseke Trading Centre. Nsamba had
been living with Mwebaza following his departure from Kakooge Village after the initial community gathering.
Family members of Nsamba publicly disowned him, citing cultural, religious, and community norms that oppose homosexuality. Homosexuality remains highly stigmatized in Uganda, and under the Anti- Homosexuality Act passed in March 2023, individuals engaging in same-sex relationships face severe legal consequences. Section 9 of the law criminalizes renting premises to LGBT individuals and mandates that the community report any suspected acts of homosexuality to authorities.
Amidst these tensions, Nsamba’s family members of the local community have stated that they intend to hand over Nsamba and Mwebaza to law enforcement, in line with the provisions of the Anti-Homosexuality Act.
The whereabouts of both men remain unknown, and concerns over their safety continue to mount as Uganda’s stringent anti-LGBTQ+ laws continue to provoke fear and discrimination within affected
communities.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the disappearance of Nsamba and Mwebaza, but the case has drawn significant attention due to the increasing hostility toward LGBTQ+
individuals in Uganda.
