
Latest info reaching our desk has it that 89% of Ugandans have never screened or tested for cancer. In a poll carried out by Government Citizens Interaction Centre (GCIC), 33% Ugandans revealed that they have never thought about screening for cancer. A whopping 89% of Ugandans have never screened or tested for the deadly disease ‘cancer’.
The feedback reveals that only 11% Ugandans have screened for Cancer. 19 % have thought about testing and 33% have NEVER.

According to the statistics, 21,300 Ugandans die from cancer every year but early detection saves lives.
Dr. Diana Atwiine, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health said early detection is the answer to fighting cancer.
“Cancer treatment is expensive, let us prevent it by early screening,” Diana said.
According to the Ministry of Health, non communicable diseases such as cancer are leading cause of death in the world owing to 68% of deaths.

In Uganda, breast cancer and cervica cancer are common among women and prostate cancer and Kaposi Sarcoma common in men.
