    NWSC targets water point in every Village

    National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Managing Director (MD), Eng. Dr. Sliver Mugisha has said they are working on an arrangement to have water point in every village across the country.

    He said this during a live session at Government Citizens Interaction Centre (GCIC) at the Ministry of ICT Kampala. The session was hosted by Morrison Rwakakamba. Mugisha also said NWSC dreams of Uganda with no yellow jerrycans. He added that the National Water and Sewerage Corporation want to have 100% water supply by 2021.

    NWSC presented a strategic plan which contained their performances and projected infrastructure development as they plan to make safe and clean available to every individual under their area of operation by 2018.

    The water body has grown from 50,000 to 472, 0000 customers by 2017 and is currently covering 178 towns across the country. “We are supplying a population of 6m people,” Dr. Rose Kaggwa said.

    The MD also revealed that by 21, they want to be present in over 250 towns across the country.

    Director, Manifesto Implementation Unit Office of the President Wills Bashaasha praised NWSC saying it is making his work easier. He was happy with the GCIC for organizing such a live interaction session where NWSC was able to share and answer questions from its customers.

    This will help keep Ugandans informed on the issues of national development, GCIC is a good initiative,” Bashaasha said as he gave closing remarks about the session.

    GCIC will have continuous live sessions with government organisations as a way of accounting their service delivery to the general public. This was revealed by GCIC head Morrison Rwakakamba today.

    Citizens rate friendliness and caring concern of nurses

    In a poll held by Government Citizen Interaction Centre, Ugandans have rated friendliness and caring concern of nurses in the service delivery. The feedback received has it that 70% citizens say friendliness and caring concern of nurses poor. Over 400 people who participated in the poll, 11% say nurses are very good at caring, 19% say they are good, 30% say they are poor while 40% say they are very poor.

    Citizens have called for the motivation of health workers to be able to instill in them a sense of caring and friendliness towards their patients.

    89% Ugandans have never tested for cancer

    Latest info reaching our desk has it that 89% of Ugandans have never screened or tested for cancer. In a poll carried out by Government Citizens Interaction Centre (GCIC), 33% Ugandans revealed that they have never thought about screening for cancer. A whopping 89% of Ugandans have never screened or tested for the deadly disease ‘cancer’.

    The feedback reveals that only 11% Ugandans have screened for Cancer. 19 % have thought about testing and 33% have NEVER.

    According to the statistics, 21,300 Ugandans die from cancer every year but early detection saves lives.

    Dr. Diana Atwiine, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health said early detection is the answer to fighting cancer.

    “Cancer treatment is expensive, let us prevent it by early screening,” Diana said.

    According to the Ministry of Health, non communicable diseases such as cancer are leading cause of death in the world owing to 68% of deaths.

    In Uganda, breast cancer and cervica cancer are common among women and prostate cancer and Kaposi Sarcoma common in men.

    Citizens rate safety measures at night

    In a poll posted by Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC),49% citizens totally feel safe when outside alone at night. They say trend line of trust in law enforcement is positive.

    The poll was; To what extent do feel safe in your community when you are outside alone at night?

    18% of the respondents say they feel safe to a great extent, 31% say a lot, 27% say a little while 25% say not at all.

    Also 50% of Kampalans have rated condition of food handling and food hygiene positively. 50% negatively.

    In a poll question, Do you live or work in Kampala City? How do you rate condition of food handling and food hygiene practices?

    0% of the respondents say it is excellent, 50% say it is good, 33% say it is poor while 17% say it is very poor.

    Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC) has introduced daily polls on different subjects affecting the communities and the poll questions are posted on their social media platforms every day.

    Ugandans rate condition of garbage services in Kampala

    64% of Kampala City residents have rated condition of garbage services positive in their area. This was during a poll quiz organized Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC).

    In the feedback, 4% voted it excellent, 30% good, 30% fairy good totaling to 64% of Kampala City residents who thinks garbage services is positive. 36% of the residents put it a poor state.

    In response KCCA said they have a plan of installing three major plants of recycling, composting and waste energy very soon.

    Citizens rate condition of Water services in their area

    86% of the citizens have rated condition of water services in their area. Responding to the poll question posted by Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC), 18% rated the services excellent, 43% rated at good, 25% rated it at fairly good with 13% putting it at poor.

    The poll question was, “What is the condition of water services in your home and neighbourhood”. Citizens also expressed confidence in National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in service delivery and called on the water body to do more and reach more people and areas.

    NWSC on Tuesday completed plans to make water available to 12,000 villages in 80 districts across the country.

    “Am sure most of the citizens that participated in this poll are Urban based, however the status in most rural areas isn’t impressive or good at all. I hope the establishment of Public Access Points will help save the situation more so with the unreliability of rainfall increasing rapidly each passing day,” Franco Kibuule reasoned out.

    GCIC starts daily citizen polls

    Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC) based at the Ministry of ICT has started daily citizen polls. GCIC will be posting a poll question on the media platforms for the members of the general to respond. The questions will be mostly about issues affecting daily lives of citizens. The Poll closes in 22 hours.

    In yesterday’s poll, GCIC asked; FIFA voted to expand world cup participating teams from 32 to 48. Will this give Uganda a chance?
