As Uganda registers a steady growth in the commercial poultry sector ,Government of Uganda has announced that poultry farming is going to be turned into a lucrative and profitable business.

The sector’ has grown steadily at an average annual rate of about 4.4%, supporting domestic food security and regional exports Currently.

This was disclosed this afternoon by the Minister of state for Trade and industry David Bahati as he inspected Uganda’s first privately owned egg processing factory Pristine Foods Limited located in Kamuli, Kireka, Wakiso District.

Uganda produces approximately 44,000 to 45,000 metric tons of chicken eggs annually, according to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Despite a booming commercial poultry sector, the average per capita egg consumption in Uganda is very low at roughly 0.75 kg to 1 kg per person per year (about 15 to 20 eggs annually), falling far below the global average and general nutritional guidelines which suggest eating several eggs a week (or roughly 9 kg to over 10 kg per year) to prevent micronutrient deficiencies and support optimal growth.

The factory is turning Fresh shelleggs into stable, high-value industrial products like whole egg powder liquid yolks, and whites

In Uganda, eggs are widely used in urban roadside fast foods, schools, and export markets like Kenya and South Sudan.
