Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ms Juliana Kagwa speaking at 2nd Regional Women in Tourism Congress in Zimbabwe appealed to fellow leaders in the tourism sector to be deliberate about moving from policy to practice if they are to truly uplift women in the sector.

Uganda Tourism Board CEO, Ms Juliana Kagwa

She said in Uganda, tourism impacts more than 1.5 million people indirectly and close to 700,000 directly. It is interesting that 68% of this workforce is female.

However she said the challenge is that many women remain in lower-income roles.

“It was an honor to speak at the 2nd Regional Women in Tourism Congress hosted by the UN Zimbabwe. I appealed to fellow leaders in the sector to be deliberate about moving from policy to practice if we are to truly uplift women in the sector. As we commemorate the International Labour Day, may we be deliberate about funding women, promoting them and backing their enterprises/businesses. We must open doors for women deliberately,” Juliana Kagwa said.
