Uganda secures UGX 340 Billion French Funding for Kampala Water and Urban Development

Uganda has secured €85 million (UGX 340 billion) from France to transform water supply and urban development in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

€45M for Water Expansion – More clean water, better access, and improved distribution.
€40M for Urban Growth – Strengthening Kampala’s infrastructure and services.

This investment will increase water production to 240M liters/day, benefiting 3 million+ people in areas like Kira, Kasangati, Kawempe & Mutungo. Plus, 2,600 prepaid meters & 71km of new pipelines will bring safe water to informal settlements.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija calls this a game-changer in Uganda’s Vision 2040, while NWSC MD Dr. Silver Mugisha assures that water shortages will be tackled head-on.

A huge step toward sustainable cities, clean water for all, and climate-resilient development. Let’s protect our water sources and make this project a success.
