All the participants had to do was tell the most compelling story about the project which was then voted for by followers on the Uganda Breweries Facebook page.

From a total of 42 nominations that were received, Topowa Youth Mentoring Uganda had the highest number of votes for their initiative that empowers youth, facilitates powerful training and sharing effective technical assistance for young people.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ocitti said, “Every Year as we celebrate our anniversary, we stop everything we are doing and engage with our communities in a meaningful and impactful way. This year, we decided to ask the communities to reach out to us in a bid to find one that was working towards empowering and making meaningful change in the lives of the communities. Topowa, on top of being overwhelmingly voted by social media followers, we found, shared the same values that we do. We hope that this donation will push you some on your journey to more good work. “Ocitti added.

In his remarks, Katongole thanked Uganda Breweries Limited for the generous contribution that will go a long way in funding their two ongoing campaigns.

“We intend to use the donation money to run our two Programs, the be smart don’t start campaign and Beera Steady Campaign.

The Be Smart Don’t Start Campaign focuses on raising awareness on the dangers of substance abuse among the youth while the Beera Steady campaign seeks to directly involve young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy in Uganda. “
