Shaman accuses Eddy Kenzo of unfairly distributing Government funds for artists
A controversy is brewing in Uganda’s music industry over government funding for musicians. Omukenkufu Shaman Ug, a rising star, has accused Eddy Kenzo, president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), of unfairly distributing government funds meant to support artists.
Omukenkufu Shaman Ug claims that government funds given to Eddy Kenzo are not being distributed fairly among artists, saying, “The money that government gives Eddy Kenzo is for eating, but us musicians get nothing.” This statement has sparked concerns about transparency and accountability within the music industry.

The government allocated UGX 13 billion as a stimulus package for the music industry, with over UGX 8 billion disbursed to UNMF. Eddy Kenzo confirmed receiving funds but refused to disclose the exact amount, citing confidentiality. Some artists, including Ziza Bafana and Nina Roz, have received their shares, but others claim they have been left out.
Kalifah AgaNaga has defended Eddy Kenzo, attributing negative perceptions to jealousy and a desire to undermine his achievements. However, Saha has backed up Omukenkufu Shaman Ug, stating that copyright has no importance. Media mogul Nyanzi said airplay fees will be raised once the Copyright is amended, sparking debate about music distribution and royalties in Uganda.

Omukenkufu Shaman Ug recently released a new song called “Kiba Kidongo”. The music industry is watching closely to see how this issue unfolds and whether musicians will receive the support they need. The future of Uganda’s music industry hangs in the balance, with many wondering if Eddy Kenzo and the UNMF leadership can address the concerns of musicians and restore trust in the system.
