‘Public Should Beware Of Conmen/Fraudsters Pilgrimage to Mecca’ – State House

Don Wanyama

It has come to the notice of State House management that some unscrupulous characters are soliciting for money from unsuspecting members of the Muslim community, claiming they will get them funding from State House to make the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).

Following a tip from a vigilant member of the public, two such suspects have been arrested and are currently detained at Wakiso Police Station, awaiting the due process of the law.

State House would like the public to know that if His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni offers to sponsor pilgrims for Hajj, the beneficiaries are identified in a structured manner in conjunction with other key stakeholders like the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. The sponsorship is FREE and no one should pay money on claims of being included on a list of pilgrims.

We request the public to stay vigilant and report any such people asking for money at the nearest police station or call the State House hotline 0414-343308.
