Program for the 2nd France – Uganda Friendship Week

[Saturday 17th to Saturday 24th March 2018]

For the second consecutive year, the Embassy of France together with the Uganda Olympic Committee and, for this year, the Uganda Rugby Union, with the support of over 37 sponsors, is organising a series of joyful, festive events to celebrate the longstanding, warm friendly relations between France and Uganda, through music, sports and cultural activities, tourism and environment expos, food and fashion, defence and security celebrations, among others.

The second edition of the France-Uganda friendship week of celebrations is scheduled to take place from Saturday 17th to Saturday 24th March 2018 on eight different locations in and around Kampala. The week will climax on Saturday 24th March at the Kyadondo Rugby Club with a rugby match between the Uganda Rugby 7s and the French army rugby team, followed by a music concert featuring some prominent local and international artistes, including Jose Chameleon, Irene Ntale, Navio, Congoloko (DRC) and David Walters (France), among others. The proceeds from this event will go to purchase sports equipment for some disadvantaged schools.

A day dedicated to the celebration of the French language, francophone cultures and values on the occasion of the International Francophony Day (celebrated internationally on 20th March). Organized in collaboration with some other francophone diplomatic and consular missions in Uganda (Belgium, Burundi, DRC, France, Guinea), the events include traditional music and dance, school performances, culinary festival, exhibitions, children choir, poems, plays, concerts, skits, art & craft etc. There is a joint speech by the organising Francophone Heads of missions and a live music concert featuring Maurice Kirya, Sandy Soul and some Congolese stars.

TOURISM & ENVIRONMENT DAY

The day seeks to promote awareness and shared concern for the environment, eco-tourism, protection and conservation of wildlife, through films, sights and sounds, photo exhibitions etc., showcasing the beauties of the two countries, at the French Residence. Also, on this occasion, more than ten French tour operators, bloggers and journalists are visiting Uganda for a ten-day educational /Fam trip Safari in Uganda’s major parks.

Tuesday 20th March 2018

FASHION DAY

As part of Uganda/France academic partnership, Uganda fashion designers from Records Fashion School and their French counterparts from École Duperré Paris will make French designs using African material and vice-versa. Their production will be showcased during a catwalk show at the French Residence in Kampala. Uganda’s Paris-based fashion designer and artist Stella Atal is part of the team.

Wednesday 21st March 2018 GOÛT DE FRANCE / GOOD FRANCE DAY

Goût de France or Good France is a worldwide annual event promoting the French fine dining and its values. A Ugandan chef (Henry Wanyama) and a French chef (Gilles Ney) will team up to prepare a special dinner at Le Château restaurant. Two other restaurants (7 seas at Sheraton hotel and Pearl of Africa restaurant at Serena hotel) will also propose a French gastronomic menu on Goût de France Day.

A social gathering of Ugandan army and other security officers, Defense Attachés accredited to Uganda, French army rugby team, Uganda Rugby 7s players and other distinguished guests converge at the French Residence to celebrate the friendly relations and the growing security and defence cooperation between the two countries.

Friday 23rd March 2018 SPORTS DAY

[Sports/Charity]

Visits by members of the French rugby military team, some Uganda Rugby 7s players, Uganda Rugby Union officials and Uganda Olympic Committee representatives to four disadvantaged schools (Uganda School of the Deaf, Banunule Terra Nova Academy, Kibuli Police Children Sch., Kibuli S.S,) to promote the values of sports. 4 selected schools

[Rugby match & Music concert]

A rugby 7s tournament between the Uganda Rugby 7s and the French army rugby team, followed by a music concert featuring top Ugandan (Jose Chameleon, Irene Ntale, Navio etc.) and international Francophone (Kongoloko from DRC, David Walters from France etc.) artistes.
