The Rotary Club of Medical Stars, a club under National Medical Stores, made a memorable entry into Uganda’s society and corporate philanthropy circles with an elegant Charter Night held on 8th November at Speke Resort Munyonyo-showcasing a refined blend of glamour, purpose and corporate social responsibility.

The evening marked the official chartering of the first corporate-based Rotary club in District 9214, drawing together Rotarians, corporate executives, diplomats, health sector leaders and invited guests for a night that celebrated service with sophistication.

A Classy Ceremony With a Corporate Touch

The highlight of the night was the installation of Sheilla Nduhukire as the Charter President of the club. She received the instruments of power from Rotary International Director Elect, Emmanuel Katongole, in a dignified ceremony that symbolised the start of a new model of Rotary service rooted in corporate structures.

The ballroom décor, ambiance and well-curated programme reflected a balance of Rotary tradition, corporate elegance and youthful energy.

Inspiring Speeches, Purposeful Guests

Speeches on the night carried a sense of vision and high purpose. Representing the Chief Guest, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, RIDE Emmanuel Katongole applauded National Medical Stores (NMS) for opening a pathway that redefines how public institutions approach community engagement.

The message encouraged the club to serve beyond its immediate environment and champion projects that inspire transformational impact.

District Governor Christine Kyeyune Kawooya, who officiated the chartering, commended the club’s collaborative spirit following its successful Mega Medical Camp, which served over 2,100 people in Kajjansi.

Stylish but Not Detached From Impact

While guests arrived elegantly dressed for the formal dinner, the tone of the night remained anchored in service and philanthropy.

In a move that drew admiration, RIDE Katongole announced a UGX 150 million fundraising commitment towards construction of a four-classroom block at Akengyeya Primary School in Kazo District.

The initiative will be championed by Dr. Fabian Kasi, Managing Director of Centenary Bank and one of the notable figures inducted as Honorary Member during the ceremony.

A Fresh Face of Rotary Culture

Beyond the ceremony itself, what stood out for many attendees was the refreshing brand of Rotary that RC Medical Stars is introducing-professional, mission-driven, youthful and relatable, yet still grounded in Rotary’s values of Service Above Self.

The club’s membership is largely made up of NMS professionals, positioning it as a unique example of corporate volunteerism and workplace-driven social impact. Members have already demonstrated commitment through health outreach, education support and disability inclusion projects.

The night also served as an opportunity for professionals from different sectors to network, exchange ideas and explore partnerships for future service.

A New Impact Calendar Highlight?

If this debut is a reflection of what is to come, the Rotary Club of Medical Stars may soon be one of Kampala’s standout dates on both the service calendar and the polished, professional social scene.

In a landscape where corporate events often feel routine, this one struck the right balance: meaningful, well-executed, elegant, and anchored in community impact.
