Photos: Hundreds attend Kagulu Annual Rock Climbing Challenge

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the company of the Kyabazinga, His Highness Wilberforce Gabula and Speaker of Parliament Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Bryan White Foundation CEO, Bryan White, joined hundreds of tourism enthusiasts to climb Kagulu Rock in Buyende District.

The rock, which rises 3,600ft above sea level, is a unique tourist attraction because of the adventure that it gives to those who dare to climb it and the rich cultural history that it embeds.

The rock is located on the fringes of Lake Kyoga (Kioga) in Buyende district.

“I thank the Right Honourable Kadaga for promoting tourism in Busoga, which has some very great attractions like the Source of River Nile, that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The government will handle the issue of fixing roads leading to some of these tourist sites. However, we do not need to borrow money to do this. We might have to re-arrange our budget and focus on what is critical.

Whereas I appreciate the importance of tourism, it cannot transform every individual. I therefore encourage the people of Busoga, who are outside tourism, to engage in commercial agriculture in order to defeat poverty.

I also congratulate the winners of Busoga Miss Tourism contest; Ruth Kitamirike, Anita Mutesi, and Peninah Nabirye, whom I crowned after the rock climbing expedition,” President Yoweri Museveni said.
