While flagging off the youth at OWC Headquarters in Kamwokya, Kampala, the Deputy Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, Lt Gen Charles Angina, said the factory will help reduce on importation of tiles, which has made construction very expensive as well as cost the country a lot of foreign exchange revenue.

He added that 90% of the raw materials will be locally sourced from Uganda and only 10% from abroad. The Managing Director of Goodwill Ceramics, Mr. Zhou Yu, while addressing the media, said the youth will be provided with free accommodation and meals. They will also stand a chance of having up to 50% of their monthly salary in bonuses as a motivation for their commitment to their duties..

Mr. Zhou thanked the government for providing a dedicated 5 megawatt power line directly to the factory to enable stable production. This first batch of labourers is to be engaged by the factory with more to follow.

They will undergo a brief training on tile production as well as machine operation to enable them take over from the Chinese workers who constructed the factory.

Gen Charles Angina cautioned the youth against misconduct and requested them to ensure they remain disciplined to avoid losing their jobs. The factory, which has taken 9 months to build, will start commercial production within the next 10 days.
