MTN Uganda Wins Embezzlement Case Against Former Employee

Former Accounts Assistant, Michael Mukiibi, yesterday became the first ever MTN Uganda Ex Staff to be convicted at the Anti-Corruption Court, Kololo.
On 27th December 2012, Michael Mukiibi while working at MTN Business Solutions Centre, Crested Towers stole UGX 43,096,000 and forged a bank deposit slip.MTN Uganda has won a case against former employeeMTN Uganda has won a case against former employee

Prosecution was led by Senior State Attorney Marion Acio. Michael Mukiibi pleaded guilty on presenting the first witness. Justice Mugamba promptly convicted him as follows;

Unlimited Internet - Uganda

CT1- EMBEZZLEMENT, Contrary to section 19 (b)(i) of the Anti-Corruption Act2009- A fine of UGX 3m or 6 years in jail on default.

•CT2- FORGERY, Contrary to section 342and 347 of the Penal Code Act Cap 120- A fine of UGX 500K or 2 years in jail on default.

CT3- UTTERING FALSE DOCUMENT, Contrary to section 352 of the Penal Code Act Cap 120- A fine of UGX 1.5M or 2 years in jail on default.

CT4- FRAUDULENT FALSE ACCOUNTING, Contrary to section 23 (b) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009- A fine of UGX 1.5m or 2 years on default.

Total fines UGX 7m and the sentences run concurrently on default.

In addition, Michael Mukiibi has been ordered to pay UGX 43,096,000 to MTN Uganda. The amount has to be paid within 2 years from 10/03/2015. Frank Magala (his uncle) stood surety for him and deposited his passport.
He also deposited a land title to guarantee payment. Michael Mukiibi cannot hold public office for 10 years.
