The deal, which was inked in March 2014, will see Mtech Kenya get exclusive rights to sell Nyanda’s music online and via mobile phones across the African continent. This will include, MP3 downloads, Caller Ring Back Tones and Full tracks.
According to Mtech’s Head of Content, Shiro Mwendwa, “The appetite for dance hall music in Africa has grown immensely, as a company we would like to contribute to that growth by making dancehall music available in all parts of the continent where we have a foot hold.
Nyanda and her sister Nalia amicably agreed to take a break after doing well in international circles courtesy of their hits ‘Love is Wicked’ and ‘Bad To The Bone’ which saw the sisters tour the world.
Nalia opted to concentrate on interior design while Nyanda decided to focus on doing music. She is currently signed under Jamaica’s new record label Tropic Electric.
She has however worked with other producers such as duo Blacklion that produced her hits Slippery and Trouble as well as The Wizard who did Like A Pro, 12 out of 10 and Quati Wut.
The sultry singer has worked with international heavyweights in the music industry such as Lauryn Hill, Will.I.Am and Akon.
She has just released a new song ‘I love Sax’ which she is positive will do as well as ‘Slippery When Wet’.
Mtech’s artists Liaison, Paul Omido says the deal has been on the pipeline since Nyanda launched her solo career. “When she released her debut solo track ‘Slippery When Wet’ and it went on to become a monster hit, we knew we had made the right decision to sign her,” he says.
“We are very excited about the partnership with MTECH as we continue to expand our reach within African markets. As a company, our Goal is to create opportunities for our partners in particular Reggae artists, Labels and copyright owners to generate revenue says Chez Gayle, Nyanda’s Manager.
