MP Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish officially launches Hass Avocado Farming campaign to boost income generation in Rukiga households

Rukiga County in Rukiga District Member of Parliament, Hon. Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish, has officially launched Hass Avocado Farming in the constituency. During the legislator nick named ‘The Fixer’ told residents of Rukiga District to embrace Hass avocado farming as a sustainable means to increase household incomes and drive economic development in the area.

The launch was held at Mugogo Playground in Muhanga Town Council yesterday. Hon. Ndyomugyenyi emphasized the immense economic potential of Hass avocado farming sighting its high demand on both local and international markets. He added that the initiative provides a timely opportunity for communities to diversify their agriculture and increase earnings.

“This is not just a project, it’s a movement to transform lives, improve livelihoods, and promote environmental sustainability,” Hon. Ndyomugyenyi said.

“With practices like soil conservation and biodiversity enhancement, Hass avocado farming aligns well with our broader goals for rural transformation,” he added.

He said adoption of Hass avocado farming could significantly reduce poverty and lead to long-term economic growth in Rukiga County, calling on all residents to actively take part in the initiative.

Beneficiaries who received avocado seedlings during the launch expressed gratitude for the MP’s continued dedication to the development of the constituency.

Local leaders and residents welcomed the project, noting that it aligns with the broader objective of empowering communities through sustainable agriculture, creating jobs, and fostering agribusiness.

Rev. Victor Ndiharomwe, the parish priest of Emmanuel Kasheregyenyi Church of Uganda in Kamuganguzi Sub-county, also lent his voice in support of the campaign. He noted that the initiative complements the Diocese of Kigezi’s wider efforts to fight poverty under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, the Bishop of Kigezi.

“The Bishop has been encouraging Christians to engage in Hass avocado farming to improve their livelihoods,” Rev. Ndiharomwe said. “It’s a practical and faith-driven approach to addressing the economic challenges faced by many families in Kigezi.”

The launch event marked a key milestone in Hon. Bish’s ongoing commitment to rural development and household sustainability in Rukiga County.

Hon. Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish is among the best performing MPs in the 11th Parliament both in terms of debate on the floor of Parliament and uplifting his constituents from poverty. He is due to seek for a second term in next year’s General Elections.
