We had a chat with her about the journey that led her to become the iconic basketballer, committed mother to her lovely daughter and awesome wife that she is today!
Flirsh has been motivated by success stories of hardworking stars turned legends.
She decided that she would be them one day and continually looks to ‘her’ goal. She pushes self for it, competes (even against self) for it, rebukes self for coming short and when the time is right; she goes full force and achieves her dream!
When asked about her legacy;
Flavia shared her desire to be remembered as the sports woman and woman in sports who kept pushing boundaries. And long after that; as one who motivated young athletes to hunger and strive harder for goals they set out to achieve! She hopes to be a living example.
“Participation of women in sports should start from the grassroots.”
From a very young age, Flavia’s Mum pushed her to work hard and train regardless of the weather.
This tenacity and drive later morphed into a self discipline and desire she had to work hard and push self unsupervised. If the discipline for one to push self to be better is inculcated in young athletes, the sport federations’ equal involvement of women or financial support from sponsors shall only help to shine a light that’s already burning, brighter.
That’s what Flavia believes shall enhance participation of women in sports.
Flavia currently hosts a sports show on Urban TV (Sports Woman) which concentrates on Ugandan women in sports and acts as a tool for her to show the world; “how awesome women actually are”
She’s not all uniquely about business and ball though! Flavia loves to cook, and eat. She also has a great social life and keeps her daughter and husband (whom she calls her backbone) as priority.
If Flavia could meet her 16year old self; she’d tell her to “keep pushing even more, because the harder you push, the easier you realize that nothing can pull you away from your goals. NOTHING”
