A famous blogger was last week charged for being behind publicity discrediting the government efforts of providing the service delivery.
On Monday 10th March 2023, Tom Ayeny a.k.a Ayeny Angulu, 40, appeared before Lira Chief Magistrate, Joe Fay Adoko, who charged and remanded him to Lira Government Prison for publishing, sharing and tagging people to harmful propaganda.
Adoko was paraded to the Magistrate’s chamber at around 3pm following his arrest on orders of the RCC of Lira, Lawrence Egole.

The arrest was in line with false information he published and shared to all social media platforms in Lango and beyond, alleging without any single evidence, that the “dead bodies are scattered everywhere unattended at Lira Regional Referral Hospital”.

With intent to mudslide the entire NRM government system, Ayeny further insulted the line Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero and the management of the hospital, a move that is aimed at undermining the efforts of the government in improving the health service delivery not only in the region of Lango but Uganda as a whole.
Ayeng, a known content creator was picked on Friday last week by a team of detectives from Lira City Central Police Station, three weeks of his harmful propaganda that raised negative alarm among the members of the public.
The false publication has also led Civil Society Organisation to deploy their staff to gather reports to share with the international community, which put the image of the country’s health sector at stake. Even some members of the opposition National Unity Platform and FDC have reportedly sneaked into the hospital premises to try to gather reports to implicate the NRM government further.
As Ayeny appeared in court on Monday, his close friend, one Dina Apicai, was running around in every office in court trying to secure him bail even before the investigation into the matter is completed.
Aceng Judith, a resident of Ireda Camber Cell and Ongom Isaac of Odumu cell in Akia Ward, with whom he works, presented themselves in court to stand surities for Ayeny. The Chief Magistrate then remanded Ayeny until 13th March when he will reappear for bail hearing and consideration.
It’s important to note that, in the last general elections (2021), the suspect, Ayeny Angulu served as the coordinator of the National Unity Platform (NUP), in Agwata, Dokolo district before he was discharged off the duty due to numerous allegations of failure to account for money meant for facilitating the political activities. He then crossed to FDC before joining Minister Hon. Betty Amongi’s social media team.
The police last week said Ayeny’s false publication could have been purely initiated and sponsored by an individual who wants to fulfill her political interest.
Lira Regional Referral Hospital Administrator, Peter Okello Odeke recently, warned the scrupulous individuals to desist from involving the facility in their political wars.
