The annual Kids of Africa Run for Fun 2017 is set to take place on 15th October. This was revealed yesterday at a Press Conference held at Kampala Sheraton Hotel.
The ‘Run For Fun’ is aimed at raising funds for the provision of safe drinking water through construction of boreholes to the community, and to celebrate their 11th anniversary. This is the 7th edition of the “Run for Fun” and the growth of the event has been most encouraging.
The inaugural run in 2011 had over 300 runners of all ages;
In 2012 there were over 500 runners, and by 2016 it had 923 participants;
This year over 1000 runners are expected.
The starting point will again be from Kids of Africa located in Bwerenga (Wakiso District). Coming from Kampala, take the Entebbe Road to Kawuku (25 km). At Kawuku, a signpost says Kids of Africa at the boda boda stage. Take a LEFT turn then continue on the murram road to Kids of Africa village (4km). Along the murram road you will come to a “Y” junction after 3km.Continue to the left, past the football pitch on the right, down and up a hill (Lake Victoria is on the right). As you go up the hill, you will pass new houses on the left. Take a right turn at the Kids of Africa signpost. The car park can be seen and the village entrance is 100m from this point.
Last year we raised approximately 80 million Ugandan Shillings which was used to complete the modern dental clinic at Kids of Africa.
This year’s objective is to raise 100 million Ugandan Shillings which will be used to construct 4 boreholes to cater for the water needs of the local community.

Kids of Africa
Kids of Africa, a Swiss initiative, is a children’s home operating in Uganda. It takes care of 100 abandoned children in ten family homes, each headed by a foster mother. The children represent the next generation of Ugandan society and it is hoped they will contribute to the futures of similarly disadvantaged youngsters in years to come.
