Hyena is back on the streets this Monday!
The Red Pepper set to hit the streets again on Monday 29th January 2018
Uganda’s first tabloid newspaper The Red Pepper is set to hit the streets again for the first time since November 20th last year. The newspaper and its sister publications were closed on November 20th after the Red Pepper published a story titled ‘M7 plots to overthrow Paul Kagame’.
After the publication of the story, the newspaper head offices in Namanve along Jinja Road were sealed off by Police and most of the company’s equipment and for the staff were confiscated and 5 Directors and 3 senior editors arrested and detained at the infamous Nalufenya Detention Centre in Jinja before they were remanded to Luzira Prison for a month.
The 8 managers were on 19th December 2017 released on bail which paved for their way to negotiate with the government over re-opening the paper.
Earlier this week, they met President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who ordered Police to withdraw from Red Pepper offices and return the company and staff’s gadgets. The management has confirmed to this website that the paper and its sister editions will come out on 29th January 2018, two months after it was closed.
